The Aktyubinsk area has unique natural resources - oil, gas, chrome, copper-zinc, gold-bearing, nickel-cobalt, and titan-zirconium ores.

There are 10 % of the explored and 30 % of prognostic resources of hydrocarbon raw materials of Kazakhstan (oil, gas, and gas condensate), all stocks of domestic chrome, 55 % - nickel, 40 % of the titanium. 34 % - zinc from the all stocks of republic.

In area bowels many mineral resources are hidden – gold, silver, cobalt, potassium salts, kaolin, natural and facing materials, petrobitumen solids formation, raw materials for manufacture of building materials, mineral water.

On this base the mining, oil-extracting, gas-processing, chemical industry, black and nonferrous metallurgy, instrument making has received development.

The largest representative of the mining industry is joint-stock company "multinational corporation Kazhrom" branch - the Donskoi GOK, the enterprise for extraction and enrichment of chromic ore, the annual volume of gross output makes 3265,3 thousand tons, 14744 million tenge.

The representative of the chemical industry is the Aktyubinsk factory of chromic compounds - the world manufacturer of chromic salts and sulphurous sodium, the annual volume of gross output makes 96,8 thousand tons, 6404,8 million tenge

At the enterprise seven basic manufactures: sodium monochromate - a semi-finished product for manufacture of commodity chromic salts; sodium bichromate, potassium bichromate - are used in the metallurgical, light and mining industry; chromic anhydride - is used in an iron and steel industry; chrome tanning agent - it is used for processing of tanning raw materials; chrome pigmentary - is irreplaceable in a paint and varnish industry, technical sulphurous sodium - is used for enrichment and neutralization in many manufactures.

The representative of the oil-extracting industry is open joint-stock company "CNPC Aktobemunaigaz" - it is set up in 1981. Principal types of work: working out and extraction of hydrocarbon raw materials, transportation of oil, gas and their products, delivery in operation, carrying out design - the researcher, building - installation works, makes - annual volume of gross output 5696 thousands tons, 95276,3 million tenge. In 1997 the Chinese national oil corporation has got 60 % of capital stock. The enterprise has 14 branches on area.

The Zhanazholsky gas-processing factory, at this enterprise 70000 people work.

The representative of instrument making industry is open joint-stock company "Aktubrentgen" the manufacturer of mobile fluorography complexes, digital x-ray devices, cable production, gas meters.

Open joint-stock company "Factory 406GA" carries out repairs of engines JAK-40, JAK-52, JAK-18 planes, helicopters MI-2 and repair of all equipment units of planes of the same type.

The representative of ferrous metallurgy is the Aktyubinsk factory of ferroalloys - the branch of transnational company "Kazchrome", in 1995 the enterprise was transferred under control of the foreign investor, the annual volume of gross output makes - 340 thousand tons., 24700,0 million tenge. Produces ferrochromium 60 %, ferrochrome silicon, metal chrome, calcium carbide of market-grade, lime carbonate of market-grade. The factory processes slags up to 300 tons. Adjusts titanic manufacture on the Shokashsky minefield, conducts extraction of ilmenite, builds factory for zircon and rutile production.
